Bedfordshire ASA has announced it will be running a British Swimming Judge Level 1 (JL1) course for swimming officials. Applicants must either have attended a timekeeper theory session or already qualified as a timekeeper to attend. You must be a current member of Swim England.
If you are not a current Swim England member, please contact your club membership officer to arrange for you to join Swim England. This provides you with the required insurance cover whilst on the poolside.
There is still time to apply to attend the Beds ASA timekeeper course being held on 23 September 2018, to enable you to also apply for the Judge level 1 course. Beds ASA Conference information.
This is the first level of British qualification. It encompasses the role and duties of a Timekeeper, Chief Timekeeper and Inspector of Turns.
The minimum age to start training is 15 years. Candidates will be required to undertake some formal theory instruction and gain practical experience working on the poolside with a mentor. A course workbook is provided for completion after which there will be a practical assessment.
During the practical assessment candidates will be required to answer questions orally. Upon qualification candidates will be attributed with the qualification Judge Level 1 on the British Swimming Database and will be encouraged to become a Licensed Official.

Sunday 14 October 2018 – Judge theory night 1
Sunday 28 October 2018 – Judge theory night 2
(The theory sessions will be held over three evenings, all must be attended)

To attend please complete the British Swimming Officials Course application form and send it to David Metcalf as per the BS application form, together with the Swim England course fee of £8.00.
