Regional Swimming Official’s Online Forums
(Please note that you must be a current member of Swim England to join any of these forums)
Swim England East Region will be hosting a series of Swimming Official’s Online Forums at the beginning of June. We would like to assist our officials in the return to competition, we fully realise that there will have been a considerable break from officiating. To this end we have arranged some forums to refresh our knowledge and procedures to act as a confidence booster before our return to poolside.
We are planning on delivering the following forums virtually by Zoom. There is a simple registration procedure for all qualified officials who are currently members of an SE East Region Aquatic club.
The dates are: -
Tuesday 1 June 21 @ 7.30pm Swimming Officials Online Forum for all qualified officials.
Tuesday 8 June 2021 @ 19:30pm Swimming Officials Online Forum for qualified Starters.
Sunday 13 June 21 @ 10.30am Swimming Officials Online Forum for qualified Referees.
If these dates are not convenient, it is our intention to record the forums, which will be available at a later date.
It is strongly recommended that all participants click the link to access and watch the following FINA swimming officiating videos before attending the online forum.

Swimming Officials: Update - April 2021
We are starting on the journey to get back to business, returning to poolside gradually, to whatever the new normal will be in the short term.
Return to Competition Guidance
Swim England has now released its Return to Competition guidance ahead of the country moving into Step 3, which is due to take place no earlier than Monday 17 May. You may well have seen some of the headlines from that document and the specific dates for the return to competition. The document is Swim England’s Roadmap showing how we as a sport intend to move from the Return to Training to a Return to Competition in five stages.
The release of the Return to Competition guidance will be followed up with a webinar on 21 April to provide event promoters with further support and guidance and to answer any specific questions they may have when considering how to plan and stage a meet/gala. The role of the Promoter and Management team will be crucial in ensuring the safety of all our Athletes and volunteers.
If you have not read the document, please take time to read it, as In line with the Government’s own gradual easing of restrictions, the return to competition will need to be similarly phased and, with social distancing and face masks remaining in place until at least late June, it is unlikely that any galas this season will resemble galas of old. There are sections that refer to officials and volunteers.
As we move forward to returning to the water and competitions in the coming weeks, subject to the Prime Minister’s roadmap and the lifting of England's restrictions, as the Regional Officials’ Manager I am looking to assist our officials and competition volunteers. I can see that it could be quite an anxious time for our volunteers, and I would like to provide support, guidance and advice.
The Region will be running some online zoom drop-in forums and nearer to our return to competition, Q&A meetings for judges, and one for referees, for our Regional technical swimming officials. I intend to advertise these on the Regional website, via this newsletter and via County Official’s coordinators. Official’s will be able to register via a weblink to receive information to join the online forums.
